On Mothers' Day weekend I ventured over to Brooklyn's City Point Artist Market with my dear friend and stumbled across some seriously gorgeous ceramic jewelry from Brooklyn Artist, Ayana Safiya. Each piece is handmade, which makes the pieces all unique. what first attracted me to these porcelain beauties is their bold colors of coral, blush pink, vibrant whites and other neutrals. Ayana is as sweet as her ceramics and told me that she first started doing ceramics in the early days of the pandemic. First trying her hand at making mugs on the wheel, she later started making jewelry. Since those days, Ayana founded her company Ayana Safiya Ceramics and has been doing pop up shows throughout the city.
Ayana Safiya is a small-batch accessories and home brand with a simple vision and one objective in mind: create timeless, refined pieces that effortlessly fit into your capsule collection. Their intentional designs are inspired by contemporary art and world travels fused with a keen understanding of shape, color and texture. Ayana Safiya loves the juxtaposition of the perceived fragility and femininity of porcelain with the strength that our bold and contemporary designs carry. Their pieces are incredibly light weight so can be worn from day into night. Each piece is handmade in Brooklyn, NY.
I originally bought a pair of earrings for my sister but thought I should just wear them for an hour to see if they were light enough for her to wear throughout the day. They certainly were...and I didn't have the heart to give them away. Instead, I keep wearing the same earrings day in and day out. The pieces work well with a lot of our Flea outfits and I knew our clients would adore her ceramics as much as I did and we hosted a pop up with Ayana on July 16, 2022 at our Brooklyn location on Smith Street.
And reader, don't worry, I found another pair for my sister, so here's my warning to you...buy 2 pairs...one to give to someone and one to gift for yourself.
